Small Wonders...and Big Ones, too!

The Miniature Settings class (located in the "Show It" section of
Hall B) is always a popular draw at the Philadelphia Flower Show, as visitors marvel at the craftsmanship of each tiny display. Inside, you'll find real, live plants and boundless creativity.

Above is the blue-ribbon winning creation from Nancy and John Grube, titled "Water Music." Below, you can see a close-up shot of their entry, showing the amazing detail and horticulture within.

Bright colors abound at the Flower Show, which is why Lisa Roth and the team at Robertson’s Flowers of Philadelphia decided to do something dramatic: “The exhibit features only black and white flowers,” Lisa says. “It evokes the sense that you’re walking through a piano.”

The Philadelphia International Airport, a Flower Show sponsor, is involved with the Hall B exhibit of Philadelphia’s W. B. Saul High School of Agricultural Sciences. This can’t-miss attraction features a wooden bridge in a lovely wooded setting.

Student Harris Trobman says that helping to design and construct the exhibit is “great practice for my future: I hope to become a landscape architect someday.”

The exhibit from Michael Bruce Florist of Westmont, NJ, is a trio of enormous floral chandeliers suspended above visitors’ heads. “It’s like a dance floor and, if guests stand directly below the exhibit, they’ll hear music that corresponds with its theme,” Michael Bruce says.

Inspiration for this modernistic approach stems from Michaels
recent participation in a flower show in Singapore. Michael muses, “In Philadelphia, we build from the ground up. In Asia, they build from the sky down.”

What makes Jacques Amand,
the Bulb Specialists
, distinct from other exhibitors? For one, all the bulbs (more than 10,000 total) are shipped from England. Also, the group assembling the exhibits is composed entirely of volunteers.

Elaine Wiggers says, “This is truly a Mardi Gras garden—one of our lilies is even named 'All that Jazz.' Each year, we strive to showcase a species that the American gardener has never seen.”
