Opening Day at the 2008 Philadelphia Flower Show

Sunday, March 2

Talk about "pizzazz!" In this crowd-wowing display, award-winning Lamsback Floral Decorators of Philadelphia have created a series of Rhythm Rooms that evoke sultry jazz clubs of the past.

Flower Show exhibitors
for the past 18 years,
the husband-and-wife team of Bob and Karen Lamsback reveal, “What’s distinct about this year is a more contemporary look, very much inspired by modern art.”

Like jazz? At the center of Show floor you will find an eye-catching acid-green piano supplied by Jacobs Music. The one-of-a-kind Steinway & Sons instrument, created by renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly, is featured in rousing performances throughout the day. Students, faculty, and alumni of Philadelphia’s Settlement Music School—now celebrating its 100th anniversary —provide the tunes.

Visitors can also be
a part of the New Orleans-inspired Second Line parades that happen thoughout the day at the Flower Show. Come on down to enjoy the fun!

If you have a favorite exhibit at the Show, you can vote for it in the PNC People’s Choice Award competition, based at the PNC Pavilion (located in Hall B).

The official Flower Show presenter also provides visitors with flower-laden PNC Park (located near the Show entrance in Hall A), a great place to unwind that can also serve as a gathering place for groups.

Each year the American Institute of Floral Designers, based in Franklin Lakes, NJ, brings together the visions
of different designers from across North America. This year, 10 floral artists have assembled arrangements that reflect a specific aspect of New Orleans culture.

From Cajun cooking to Blanche DuBois
of A Streetcar Named Desire, these creations are well-researched and brilliantly executed. “The Flower Show is such fun for us,” says designer Colleen Kelly. “We’re kind of like a family here.”

Terrain at Styers in Concordville, PA had a big day at the Flower Show, winning both the much-coveted Best in Show Landscape award,
as well as the PNC People's Choice Award. Here is a glimpse of the display, showing a red bougainvillea clambering up the side of a rustic shack. Come down to the Show to see the entire winning exhibit.
