Golf, Greens…and Gardens Galore

Friday, March 9 & Saturday, March 10

Fore! Hit the links at this golf-inspired display by Burke Brothers Landscaping, conveniently located near the main entrance of the Flower Show. But look out for the water trap—this charming exhibit also features a charming pond garden.

Designer Kevin Burke says, “The visitor should make a connection between these two popular green-oriented activities: golfing and gardening.” Indeed, this exhibit really is a hole-in-one.

Subaru presents the Gardener’s Studio, which is your chance to sit, relax and learn about gardening from regional experts.

Located in Hall B, these informative sessions delve into topics including “Caring for Conifers” and “Proper Pruning Techniques,” just to name a few. It’s all free, too. Check the schedule for a list of times.

At the secluded Irish garden created by Meadowbrook Farm, people are lining up to take pictures of the exquisite formal garden and water feature. “This could be a postcard!” one visitor exclaimed while looking at the screen of her digital camera.

The exhibit also features butter-yellow lilies, euphorbia, campanula, fuchsia, lavender, and dandelions. Wait… dandelions? “I’ll probably get flak for this,” John Story of Meadowbrook Farm says, with a grin, “but I was going for realism.”

J. Cugliotta Landscape & Nursery Inc. wants Show visitors to know that “good fences make great gardens,” as seen in their exhibit in Hall A. The enchanting pergola in this garden is surrounded wisteria, roses, a bluestone patio, and much more.

Warning: the tranquil beauty of this garden may cause some Show-goers to don a straw hat and begin sipping lemonade!

The expert flower arrangers at Michael Bruce Florist evoke the ancient landscapes of Ireland with mossy heaths, stony crags, and misty glens. With the addition of table settings, urns, and an arbor, the setting showcases a variety of arrangement skills that come together to create a true dreamscape.
