PRE-REGISTRATION for Horticulture and Orchid classes has closed for 2012.
The pre-registration period for Horticulture and Orchid classes at the 2012 Philadelphia Flower Show has now ended. However, you may post-enter up to three plants per entry day in the Horticulture Classes and three per day in the Orchid Classes (with certain restrictions). Please see the Post-Entry section of the Exhibitor’s Guide (pages 30 and 31) for more information.
If you used the FSWebReg system to submit your entries, you will now no longer be able to view them on the web. Copies of your entry list will be mailed in your Exhibitor packet in mid-February. If you have questions about your entries, please contact us at fswebreg@pennhort.org.
Online pre-registration for the 2013 Flower Show will begin around December 15, 2012. The 2013 Exhibitor’s Guide should be available in September 2013.
THE FLOWER SHOW BOTANICAL DATABASE
The Philadelphia International Flower Show Botanical Database lists the correct names of over 17,000 plants that have been entered in previous Philadelphia Flower Shows or that have already been entered in this year's Show. These plant names (along with new ones that are submitted and checked) will appear on entry cards, plant lists, and labels for large exhibits.
These botanical names are checked before, during, and after the Show by a group of experts who use a large number of specialized reference books to make sure that the names are up to date and are spelled and punctuated correctly. The database is updated frequently.
- You can use the Philadelphia International Flower Show Botanical Database directly by clicking HERE.
- Place your cursor in the box and begin to type the name of a plant. If it appears on the drop-down list, you can see how it should be spelled for your Flower Show entry or plant list.
- Botanical names in this list are alphabetized without regard to any quotation marks or any X’s indicating a hybrid. For instance, for Tulipa ‘Abba’ just type Tulipa Abba. If the name begins with an X (e.g., X CITROFORTUNELLA MICROCARPA), do not type the X; instead, begin typing CITR. Similarly, ignore the X in the middle of a botanical name (e.g., for ECHEVERIA X GILVA ‘RED’, just type ECHEVERIA GILVA RED.
- For many of the plants on the list, you will see links to Google Images or Google Search. Those links will take you to pictures of the plants or to more information about them (often including where to buy them). The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society takes no responsibility for the accuracy of this information.
- If you are preparing a plant list for the Flower Show, do not use any variants of botanical names that you may find using Google Images or Google Search. They may be incorrect or out of date. Use the spelling and punctuation guidelines in the Botanical Database.
